Justice Orientation
Important recent social justice efforts include our support for Missouri Jobs with Justice, which lobbied for a ballot measure to increase the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour. We have also hosted an interfaith prayer service on gun violence (a particularly acute issue in St. Louis), and we continue to advocate for the rights of transgender people, who have faced a hostile climate from the state.
Additionally, we continue a ministry of hospitality for groups whose values align with ours. Recently, the Vestry approved a two-year partnership with the fledgling Progressive Orthodox Mission of St. Brigid for those who feel unwelcome in other orthodox congregations. St. Brigid prioritizes outreach to members of the LGBTQ+ community who want to explore the rich history of their traditional liturgy in sanctified space.
Central Reform Congregation and Centennial Christian Church are particularly strong allies in fostering dialogue about issues affecting our shared community. We are proud to be a church that joins hands with other people of faith. In addition to our partnership with the Holy Ground Collective, we are also a member of Metropolitan Congregations United, a group of area churches devoted to campaigns toward racial justice. We are proud to have established with the collective a microlending project that assists our neighbors with modest loans. Together, we fill our neighborhood with compassion, equity, and love as we pursue social and economic justice.
