A Trinity Timeline

1855 Trinity Church was founded. Trinity is one of the oldest Episcopal churches in St. Louis.

1910 The building was moved stone by stone to its current location, after the merger of two Episcopal congregations.

1935 Trinity as we know it was established at 600 North Euclid Avenue.

1953 Bishop Arthur Lichtenberger and other church leaders decided to remain in its current location in spite of other urban congregations relocating to suburbia.

1965 The national publication The Living Church awarded Trinity the "Distinguished Congregation" award for their relentless commitment and support to the Civil Rights Movement.

1974 Trinity Food Pantry is founded by rector The Rev . William Chapman.

1980 Trinity hired a full-time rector, The Rev. William Chapman. During the 1970s the vestry led the church with the help of three part-time priests.

1993 Rev. Chapman retired and an endowment was established in his honor, The Chapman Endowment, to commemorate his many accomplishments while serving Trinity.

1998 All Saints Memorial Garden was created by a volunteer committee. The committee oversaw the design, the furnishings, the granite wall of names, and a fountain emerging from the center of a symbolic labyrinth.

2005 Mayor Francis Slay proclaimed February 11 Trinity Episcopal Church Day because of Trinity's 150-year commitment to the City of St. Louis.

2018 Trinity hosted a "walk about," which was a meet-and-greet for the prospective candidates for Bishop of the diocese.

2020 Trinity was listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior, recognized as the first Missouri site for notable LGBTG+ history. It is the first Episcopal church to be honored.

2023 Trinity hosted an interfaith prayer vigil to end gun violence. The service was featured on several local television stations and NPR. Several parishioners serve on the diocesan Gun Violence Prevention Advisory Committee.
